M7.8 Earthquake SMASHES Philippines

A massive Magnitude 7.8 earthquake has struck the Philippines, slightly off its southern coastline at a shallow depth of only  55km.

Localized Tsunami waves struck shortly after the quake, which levelled buildings, knocked down telephone poles, ripped roadways apart.


Widespread reports of severe damage.


The initial quake was followed by several strong and very sharp aftershocks, themselves Magnitude 6.0 and lower.
