The Houthis in Yemen have resumed attacking ships in the Red Sea with multiple attacks.
Overnight into this morning, a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier was attacked ~51nm SW of Hodeidah, Yemen, in a coordinated, multi-wave assault:
1. 8–9 skiffs opened fire with automatic weapons & RPGs.
2. 4 explosive Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV's) launched; (2 were destroyed, 2 struck the vessel).
3. Three (3) missiles targeted the ship in the latest wave (Unconfirmed)
This is the first Houthi-linked maritime attack since Dec 2024, despite months of threats following US strikes in Yemen and calls to blockade Haifa-linked shipping.
This is a clear shift in Houthi intent for 2 reasons:
1. First attack in so long, AND;
2. Scale of the attack with multiple weapon types, was clearly intended to sink the ship.
As of 2:05 PM eastern US Time Sunday afternoon, the vessel is taking on water and crew is preparing to abandon ship.
