The St. Kitts and Nevis flagged bulk carrier LUNI (IMO 9070711) split apart and partially sank near the Strait of Hormuz off Bandar Abbas on Tuesday after sustaining catastrophic hull damage.

It is being reported that this was one of the ships that tried to transit the Strait of Hormuz WITHOUT Iran Permission.   It is also being reported the ship made such an effort due to the United States military assuring the vessel the "Strait is Open" and they could use it without arranging such transit with Iran.

Yesterday, Iran made clear they tried to contact the vessel numerous times to tell it to stop.  Iran was apparently ignored, before firing upon the vessel.

The vessel was en route to Jebel Ali, UAE. All crew members were rescued.
