I have just been informed the "Rules of Engagement" for US Military operating in or near the Persian Gulf, have been "updated" and that Republicans are drafting an Authorization for the User of Military Force (AUMF) against Iran.
Under these new guidelines, military units are now authorized to launch strikes against immediate threats targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, specifically highlighting Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fast attack boats and Iranian missile batteries as potential targets.
AUMF
A small group of Senate Republicans are still working behind the scenes on an authorization of military force for Iran that they can move on if President Donald Trump reprises strikes, according to several people briefed on the matter.
Republicans expect to receive a fresh notification if hostilities resume, after Trump said Friday that the first period of conflict was over. The War Powers Act allows “expedited” consideration of a military authorization if it is introduced during the first 30 days of the next 60-day period of hostilities, meaning the authorization would get a quick floor vote in the Senate.
Aides are studying whether it would be subject to a 60-vote threshold at some point; some Republicans believe it might only require a simple majority on the Senate floor.
The GOP authorization would likely limit ground troops and provide for a finite period of conflict.
CLAIM
According to U.S. Central Command, an American Navy destroyer has successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz and is now escorting commercial vessels in the Arabian (Persian) Gulf. There is ZERO confirmation of this.
As a result, they claim, two commercial ships sailing under the U.S. flag have successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Again, there is ZERO confirmation of this.
Iran claims a US Destroyer approached the Strait of Hormuz and was warned twice by radio, but ignored the warnings. Iran then claims they FIRED MISSILES toward the vessel (but did not hit it) and upon detonation of those missiles nearby, the ship withdrew.
Clearly, truth is the first casualty of war.
The Spokesman of Iran's National Security Council:
“The Strait of Hormuz isn't closed by a tweet to be opened by a tweet, The path to opening the Strait of Hormuz is either accepting defeat, reaching an agreement, and acknowledging Iran's sovereignty and supremacy over the Strait of Hormuz, or returning to the battlefield, accepting another humiliating defeat, and acknowledging Iran's sovereignty and supremacy over the Strait of Hormuz, No path remains other than this."
