Switzerland is spending 220 million Swiss franc to make sure its nuclear bomb shelters are in top shape and ready to accommodate all nine million Swiss residents, should the need arise.
According to 1963 Swiss law, all of the country's residents, including refugees and foreign workers, are guaranteed a spot in a bunker to protect them from bombs and nuclear radiation.
With the Russia-Ukraine conflict heating up badly each day, and with NATO meddling in the conflict to the point where Russia may have to use their nuclear arsenal, the Swiss government launched consultations in October to ensure Swiss "resilience in the event of armed conflict" and plan its nationwide shelter upgrade.
Also... an article by Finabel, the Swiss government is upgrading its bunkers to ensure they can withstand a 12-megaton explosion within 700 meters of the blast. The shelters are designed to be self-sufficient for up to five days, with residents expected to stay inside during a nuclear emergency.
Residents are advised to stock their shelters with essential supplies, including:
Blankets or sleeping bags
Non-perishable food
Water (at least 9 liters per person)
First aid kit
Radio and flashlight

The Swiss government also recommends that households maintain a minimum two-month food stockpile.
In addition, the country has a “vademecum” (a guidebook) to help residents prepare and stock their bunkers. The government has also developed an app, AlertSwiss, to inform citizens of emergency situations and guide them to their nearest shelter.
Overall, the Swiss government’s efforts to upgrade and maintain its nuclear fallout shelters demonstrate its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens in the face of ongoing global tensions.
