MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. Members of Poland’s GROM special operations unit have been deployed to the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Region to take part in a police operation aimed at preventing "planned acts of sabotage," Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced ahead of a cabinet meeting.
"We have decided to deploy significant police, border and counterterrorism forces to the area," he said. Tusk pointed out that the decision was prompted by reports from Polish and foreign intelligence agencies alleging that "acts of sabotage and provocation" were being planned. However, he provided no evidence to support the claims.
Earlier, the Wirtuala Polska website reported that GROM commandos had been deployed to the Russian border to monitor the situation.
On Monday, Polish police chief Marek Boron said that additional forces from other regions of the country would be deployed to the area for an operation "to combat sabotage" along the border with the Kaliningard Region.
The Russian embassy in Warsaw had previously pointed to a significant increase in militarist rhetoric in Poland’s information space, including fake news about "potential acts of sabotage.".
