Magnitude 7.7 Earthquake SMASHES Panama

At about 3:15 PM eastern US time today, Friday, October 9, an enormously strong earthquake, Magnitude 7.7, struck the land area of Panama.

The quake took place at a very shallow depth of on 12.6km, so the shaking was described as "Violent" at the surface.

Buildings have collapsed.  Roads have been destroyed or swamped by landslides.  Electricity is OUT in much of the country.
