EIA data shows Midwest (PADD 2) total gasoline stocks at 41.8 million barrels for the week ending Sept 25, 2026—the lowest in the weekly record back to 1990. Down about 1.8 million from the prior week and well below the 5-year average.

This is the worst possible timing for the Midwest.

Harvest is peaking right now, and every combine, tractor and grain truck in the region runs on diesel. With distillate stocks also well below normal, refiners can't fix the gasoline Inventory without changing from diesel production, and diesel is already near record high prices.

If they switch to refining gasoline, Diesel prices will skyrocket up.

WORSE . . .

The Midwest refineries that make that gasoline run on heavy crude from Alberta. Lowest inventory in history, and the trade war's on the one supplier built for those refineries.

Nobody in Washington, DC connects those two charts. Every operator in Hamilton and Edmonton does.
