Several explosions were heard over Doha, Qatar, on Monday, June 23, 2025, following reports that Iran had launched missiles targeting the U.S.-run Al Udeid Air Base. Iranian state media described the operation as a “mighty and successful response” to U.S. strikes on its nuclear sites, and the attack was reportedly codenamed "Annunciation of Victory". According to Reuters and other sources, six missiles were launched toward the base, prompting Qatar to temporarily close its airspace for safety reasons.
The U.S. Embassy in Qatar issued a statement advising American citizens to shelter in place, citing an “abundance of caution” amid the threat.
The Al Udeid Air Base, which houses approximately 10,000 U.S. troops, was placed on high alert, and defense systems were activated in response to the incoming missiles.
This escalation follows U.S. airstrikes over the weekend, which targeted three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—under the operation codenamed "Midnight Hammer." President Donald Trump claimed the strikes caused “monumental damage” to Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran had previously warned of retaliation, and the attack on the U.S. base in Qatar marks a significant intensification of hostilities between the two nations.
International reactions have varied, with French President Emmanuel Macron criticizing the legality of the U.S. strikes and calling for renewed diplomatic engagement with Iran.
Meanwhile, Russia reaffirmed its support for Iran’s right to self-defense and described its strategic partnership with Tehran as “unbreakable”.
