The Federal Government just declared a POWER GRID EMERGENCY across 13 states + D.C..

Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia... and Washington D.C.

The Department of Energy just issued an emergency order to PJM, the grid that powers 65 MILLION people... running Oct 13 through Oct 16.

Continued HOT temperatures are straining the grid... so power plants are now allowed to run PAST their pollution limits just to keep the lights on.

And as a LAST RESORT before rolling blackouts... PJM can force data centers and other big power users off the grid and onto their backup generators.

The grid could have as little as ~900 MW of cushion left.

This is NOT normal.   There is no HEAT of any consequence up here in New Jersey / New York City area.   It's around 58 Degrees Fahrenheit and it's been raining for days.

Yet here is the Declaration from the US Department of Energy:

The reaction from the general public shows complete disbelief.

People are speculating that some electric power plants are down for maintenance and that's why the grid may become overloaded, but there is no factual data to support the thought that widespread maintenance is taking place.

Other people are pointing to Data Centers and laying blame solely on them.

The Conspiracy Theorists are saying this is the prelude to a grid shutdown, perhaps to prevent the Mid Term Elections.

Whatever the real reason -- because heat cannot be the actual reason, it seems clear the power grid is going to be affected by something big, and the 65 Million or so people who live in the affected states could suddenly find ourselves without electricity.

Do you have an Emergency Generator?   Do you have fuel for it?   Better get to it while the power is still on.

DO NOT RUN AN EMERGENCY GENERATOR INDOORS.  The gasoline powered engines give off Carbon Monoxide which will KILL YOU if the generator is indoors.   During the recent Hurricane Isaias, a man ran his generator in his garage.   It killed him and his whole family from Carbon Monoxide posioning.
