With solutions like Springfield Underground and their 3.2M sq feet of leasable storage space, it seems this is NOT myth. And Springfield Underground is just one of many underground storage solutions the US government uses.
Deep Underground Food Storage Facilities
A few years back I spoke to an over the road driver who told me about deliveries he had made to this underground storage facility in Carthage, Missouri. He claimed it was operated by the military, but I have no proof of that. He also stated that only deliveries are made to these facilities, no loads are taken away. I decided to research these facilities online and was amazed to see the videos I have posted here.
These underground storage facilities are deep underground which tells you that what is being placed in them is meant to be protected from some major catastrophic event on the surface. It makes me ask myself, "what is our government preparing for"?
*** After reviewing some of the e-mails I received on this article I wanted to share some information that was brought to my attention. It appears that the facility in Carthage, Missouri is operated by a company called Americold. Though I do not doubt that this company does indeed use some of the space inside these massive cave facilities it is hard to imagine that they are the only one using them.
As you view the video will notice how massive they are and as the truck drives through the cave please notice the shear number of loading docks it passes. In my opinion these simply is no way that one company could use this amount of warehouse space alone.
