Out-of-state officers shot and killed a man wielding two knives blocks away from the RNC, police say


On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, a shooting incident occurred near the Republican National Convention (RNC) perimeter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to reports, a Columbus, Ohio, police officer shot and killed a man wielding two knives approximately one mile from the Fiserv Forum, the main RNC venue.

  • The shooting happened around 1:10 p.m. near 14th and Vliet streets, about seven blocks from the RNC’s soft zone.

  • The victim, a male, was armed with two knives and was reportedly “swinging knives at an individual and/or the officers.”

UPDATE 3:34 PM PST --

The incident took place 3 blocks from the RNC facility, just inside the security zone. Information indicates 2 men were in an altercation and one pulled a knife on the other. A Police Officer fired upon the knife wielding man, killing him.
