Russia said on Tuesday it had carried out a massive attack on Ukraine, which it said caused a power outage and the rail transfer of weapons and ammunition to the front line.
Ukrainian officials said earlier on Wednesday that Russia had launched more than 100 missiles and attack drones against Ukraine during the rush hour and hit energy facilities across the country.
Russia's Defense Ministry said in a statement it fired missiles from air and sea that hit electricity substations in nine Ukrainian regions and gas-compression stations in three regions.
This morning the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a massive attack with long-range weapons of air and sea, as well as with operational and tactical air and unmanned aircraft against critical energy infrastructure facilities supporting the work of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
In an apparent reference to F-16 aircraft supplied by Ukraine from the West, the ministry said in a statement that Russia also hit munitions storage facilities transported to Kiev from Western countries at two airports.
"All defined targets were hit, resulting in the interrupted supply of electricity and the transfer of -irociwide - weapons and ammunition to the contact line," the statement said.
A Ukrainian foreign ministry official said the current Russian attack was aimed at a hydroelectric plant in the Kiev region.
"Today's Russian attack... targeted Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, including the Kiev HyUS," Andriy Shibiha told X.
