A Bundeswehr base in Germany has been cordoned off after its water supply was contaminated, with the German army confirming it had launching an investigation into possible sabotage.
Soldiers at the German Army barracks were ordered not to drink water, according to German newspaper Deir Spiegel. Military police and the military's counterintelligence service were investigating the incident.
The barracks reportedly may have been broken into, with a hole in the perimeter fence apparently discovered. Tap water at the Bundeswehr base may be contaminated, with an internal memo urging both soldiers and civilians not to drink it.
No further soldiers have been permitted to enter the site. The message said anyone still in the barracks was being asked to challenge "unknown persons within sight" and to report "any suspicious behaviour." The barracks in Cologne-Wahn houses several command authorities plus both military and civilian offices of the Bundeswehr.
