Another U.S. MQ-9 Drone "Crashed"

Arab media reports: An American MQ-9 drone "crashed" in Djibouti, and the cause of the crash is still unknown.
It is claimed that the aircraft was hit, presumably by Houthi fire, in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
Pricey Loss
The pricing of the MQ-9 platform built by General Atomics generally falls into three categories:
· Baseline Unit Cost ($30M – $34M): This represents the flyaway cost of a single, standard late-model Block 5 aircraft without specialized payloads.
· Full Tactical System ($56.5M): According to the official U.S. Air Force Fact Sheet, a complete operational setup costs around $56.5 million. This bundled price includes four aircraft, advanced visual sensors, a ground control station (GCS), and a primary satellite communications link.
· Maximized Configurations (Up to $50M+): Depending on high-end modifications, such as packing specialized intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) equipment or precision weapons systems, a single drone's value can reach $50 million.
· Foreign Military Sales (FMS) ($130M – $150M per unit): International export packages for the newer, longer-endurance MQ-9B SkyGuardian or SeaGuardian are vastly more expensive. Deals with countries like India and Taiwan have averaged between $129 million and $150 million per aircraft because they bundle specialized international certifications, spare parts, weapons, and localized ground control infrastructure.
